Hyperlite Team Film – Dropping May 2009

It’s been nearly 3 years since Team Hyperlite has gathered to document their skills in a wakeboard film. A project has begun to do exactly that, featuring hammers dropped by Rusty, Murray, JD, Ruck, Rathy, O’Shea, Grubb, Schwenne, BT, Nicola & Jimmy LaRiche. Produced by Alliance Multi Media & directed by Keith Kipp, this film promises to deliver a perspective never before captured in a wakeboard film. Kipp, a former Hyperlite athlete, has an advantage when he’s behind the lens because he’s spent time in front of the cameras on his wakeboard. For the next 6 months he and his crew will be spending time at our team’s homes, in their backyards and in their faces to grab the necessary footage showcasing their talents, their personalities and their antics for you. Wakeside Wakeboard Shop has started to receive 2009 Wakeboarding Gear.

2009 Hyperlite rolled up first with a load of lighter than air Hyperlite Premier Wakeboards. I am talking thick and smoggy Hong Kong air. They are light but not as light as fresh non polluted American air (that was a joke). In that same shipment we unwrapped the dope new 2009 Byerly Assault, and Byerly Monarch Wakeboards. The Byerly Monarch looks so sick this year with a gold top sheet. Within the last couple hours we had just received the highly anticipated Byerly Blend Wakeskate. The Byerly Blend bi-level Wakeskate has better ollie power and more board control than a flat deck wakeskate.

Liquid Force has given us both the NEW 2009 Liquid Force Soven Wakeboard Boot and Phillip Soven’s new Pro Model Wakeboard, the Liquid Force S4 Wakeboard. Although we are stoked on Dr. Phil’s new gear we also have recieved Liquid Force Vantage Boot and Amber Wing’s Liquid Force Wing Wakeboard Boot. Red Bull gives you wings but so does Amber.

Ronix did not disppoint releasing Parks Bonifay’s 2009 Ronix IBEX Wakeboard and both of their amazing Intermediate Wakeboard Packages. The Ronix Vault Wakeboard and Divide Wakeboard Binding Package features a beginner wakeboard shape that will push riders to the intermediate level faster. Don’t think you will be able to out progress this board too quickly. It has quite a bit of pop hidden in that shape. The NEW Ronix Divide Wakeboard Bindings feature the same chasis as the Ronix high end pro model boots for a low profile design. The Ronix Womens Wakeboard Package has the same features with subtle tweaks in design to fit the performance needs of women wakeboarders.

Shop Hyperlite Wakeboards

The riding conditions were rough water with occasional sightings of a few white caps. Legion rider, Kyle Alberts, was caught off guard by the conditions: “The water didn’t look to bad from the dock, but as soon as you are riding it is way worse than you though, and the wake was really unpredictable”.

All afternoon and evening, riders struggled to find consistency in the choppy water. Everyone was falling. All the riders hung out around the athlete’s tent to see firsthand how everybody faired against the adverse weather. The people who were able to make it out of their heat were the ones who could quickly adapt to the fluxing water conditions.

The early afternoon hosted the Junior Men’s qualifying heats, and the Hyperlite Legion team was really making their presence known. Alex Scagliotti, Danny Burnstein, Eddie Valdez, Nick Davies, and Jimmy LaRiche all moved on to Saturday by finishing in the top two of their respected heats.

In the Pro Women’s division, Hyperlite’s Nicola Butler showed why she was the defending Wake Games champion and moved on to the next round.

In the Pro Men’s division, the quick spinning Kyle Alberts, and the rising Danny Thollander moved on as well. Speaking of Thollander, Danny scored the best run of the day – a perfect 100! (It was probably a result of his literally staying at a Holiday Inn Express the prior evening). Be looking to see Danny build off of his 100-point performance and push the Pro Men’s competition on Saturday.

Everyone is hoping for better weather in Acworth for Saturday, a day with no wind, calm waters, and sunny skies.

Rusty was riding the Hyperlite 3DS but it was just a little small for the big man from up north. It was time to give Rusty a board that he could easily spin 1080′s on. Rumor has it that Rusty was able to land his 6th 1080 on the 3rd set of his second ride on the Merek Wakeboard. Hyperlite had to get their hands dirty in the DINE department trying to utilize the same technologies that have gone into the Hyperlite Murray Wakeboard and the Hyperlite Sub VI Wakeboard. Just like the Hyperlite Sub 6 the Rusty Merek will be light in weight and stronger than Greg Dick’s kung fu leg sweep. Rusty wanted the board to be timeless so instead of putting his own name on it, he signed it with the name of his first born son. Merek Jaxon Malinoski was born 2 days after Christmas.
